Sandra went into labor at 7:45pm on Tuesday night, for those counting, yes it was 14 hours labor. We had a long night and a very long morning. Everything went great, aside from taking longer than Sandra would’ve liked. We are back home now and just trying to settle in. Connor doesn’t seem to be phased by her yet, he brings stuff to her and then goes about playing as normal. I’m sure by the end of the week he’ll be a little more upset, but hopefully we can do a great job of making him feel loved.

No, I’m not talking about Connor, even if he does fit the description. We just got back from a quick 3 day vacation/trip to Salt Lake City. We decided we needed to get away before Julia arrives and we are homebound for too many months
The trip started off horribly because while I was working the evening before we left, Connor came down with a cold and started running a fever of 103. Sandra called me while I was still at work and with a little bit of effort I was able to leave. We too Connor to the E.R. on Ft. Carson to get checked out and sat around for an hour before being screened while we watched the lady right in front of us get screened, seen by a doctor, pick up a prescription, and leave. :( Needless to say I wasn’t very happy. I went and asked when we would be screened and wouldn’t you know, somehow we were magically next (not that we would ever possibly have been overlooked.) Anywho, the doctor decided Connor was fine and that it was just a “viral” cold which caused the fever spike. We got some tylenol and motrin to help the fever if it came back.

At this point it was about 9pm and we thought, “Oh heck , we’re pretty awake and Connor will probably sleep most of the drive if we leave tonight!” So we went home, loaded up the car, and headed north on I25. After a few stops we made it out of the north end of town by about 10:45. Connor seemed to fall asleep pretty easily, and Sandra soon joined in. I had an Espresso double shot that was doing alright keeping me alert, but decided to go ahead and drink the energy drink I had bought so it wouldn’t get too warm. Keep in mind that it was non-caffeinated which should mean there’s good stuff in it. As it turns out, I couldn’t have mad a worse decision, within about a half an hour I started to feel less alert and within an hour I was full out drowsy.

Now it’s about 2am Friday morning and I pull into a rest stop to catch some sleep, figuring everyone else is already out cold so it’s no big deal. The problem is that Sandra is a light sleeper, so she wakes up immediately as I pull off the freeway. I told her I thought we could rest for about 4 hours so i could recover, and we proceeded to try to sleep in the front of our Saturn! I fell asleep pretty quickly and woke up at about 4am to Connor making happy “let’s get up” playtime noises and found out that Sandra only slept about 40 minutes. I couldn’t bring myself to go back to sleep and leave Sandra alone with and awake Connor sitting in the car bored, so we started driving and didn’t sleep anymore until we got to our destination. Probably one of our worst trips ever. Everyone who says traveling at night is better because the kids sleep the whole time hasn’t traveled with our little maniac.

Anyway, we rested and had a great visit with Uncle Darrell and Marybeth despite the fact that Sandra and I both came down with Connor’s cold. We accidentally left the camera here at home, so you will have to wait for pictures until Uncle Darrell emails them to me. The highlight of the trip for our family was Monday when we went to the Gateway Mall. They have a courtyard with one of those “dancing” fountains in the ground. Connor absolutely loved it, so we stripped him down to his diaper and the two of us played while Sandra kept an eye on all of our stuff. Connor was so adorable playing in the water. He would cover the water holes with his foot and laugh because it tickled, he got squirted in the face and just laughed. Nothing phased him because he was obviously on a mission to get soaked and have a great time doing it. I wish everyone could have been there and seen it. It was probably the most fun and exciting thing Connor and I have done together. It was really great!

The trip home today was better than the trip out, but I’ve got a mid shift tomorrow, so I’m just looking forward to finishing that and getting to catch up on some rest.

Uncle Darrell/MaryBeth - Thanks for the visit on such short notice! See you guys soon!

Mom - Can’t wait until you can come out here!

Candi - I hear you’re going to visit. Awesome!

Dad - Hopefully we’ll see you out here eventually.

We had a great Christmas this year. It was soo much fun watching Connor opening his presents. He needed a little help escpecially since he hadn’t been allowed to play with the boxes all month :) He loved everything he got, but spends the most time playing with the Sesame Street Toolbench he got from his Grandpa Ralph. He is extremely cute with his little toolbelt on. It’s really funny watching him walk around and pick up tools to put in his belt.

We did manage to get some great pictures of the little guy and I will get them put online sometime this week so don’t forget to check back! I hope everyone else had as wonderful a Christmas as we did. I worked a mid shift for New Year’s Eve, which is probably good since that meant Sandra didn’t feel bad about sleeping all night.

We hope that 2007 brings all the wonderful things that you are hoping for!

I got the tree put up last week and left boxes of Christmas decorations scattered through the house. I am happy to say that yesterday we finally got the lights and ornaments on the tree. I also single handedly cleaned up the mess! O.k. so maybe it wasn’t me specifically.

Connor has been very good with the tree so far. He doesn’t try to tug on the branches or climb up it. He gained a little more interest after the lights were plugged in and the ornaments were on, but overall he’s being very good about it.

We are looking forward to Christmas as a family this year, but wish we could see you all. Hopefully I will get lights on the house today and then I will put up some pictures for everyone! I hope you’re having a terrific Holiday Season. Merry Christmas!

Connor has been growing so much lately. He runs around all the time and understands a lot of things. He’s starting to pickup new words. Yesterday he started trying to say Yellow and learned where his nose is!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! I will be at work so you won’t get any calls untils Saturday. Sorry.
